Web Services Success in Asia

The Asiajin blog has some excellent analysis from George Goduka, the founder of Web2Asia:

George Goduka who is the founder of Web2Asia – a full-service market entry partner and incubator for Western Internet Comanche in East Asia said “It is difficult for western internet companies to expand into Asia even for successful ones”. As an example for this he pointed out many major web services in Japan, Korea, China are operated by domestic companies.

He also has eight hypothesis of why it is difficult for businesses originating elsewhere to move into the Asian market:

* No formal internationalization/Asia entry strategy
* Entered Asia too late/ too slow
* Local HQ has no full decision power
* Incomplete localization
* No Local technical development team
* Domestic players sometimes simply have the superior technology/business model
* Global corporate guidelines
* Local legislation
